The BandIT™ Sample Applicator will semi-automatically apply a uniform streak or band of sample solution to a TLC plate.
The task of preparative Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) is to isolate compounds in amounts large enough for subsequent use. Quantities range from several milligrams (mg) up to 50 mg or more. To obtain a sufficient quantity of material, a relatively large volume of sample solution must be applied to a TLC plate. Typically this is on the order of 250 microliters (ul) to 1000 ul or more.
The BandIT Sample Applicator will apply a uniform streak or band of sample solution to a TLC plate. Typically for preparative applications, a TLC plate with a thicker coating of adsorbent is used. These are referred to as preparative TLC plates. Coating thickness ranges from 500 microns up to 2000 microns (2 millimeters).
Although the BandIT Sample Applicator was designed for preparative use, it is a quantitative device and can also be used to apply sample bands to analytical TLC plates. The length of the band applied is fully adjustable to fit a variety of sample sizes as well as plate sizes.
The device can apply samples on the order of 250 microliters (ul) to 1000 ul or more.
