DEAE-cellulose TLC plates (diethylaminoethyl cellulose) function as a weak anion-exchange stationary phase. The surface contains positively charged tertiary amine groups that interact with negatively charged analytes. Because of this chemistry, the mobile phase must be compatible with both cellulose and the ion-exchange functionality.
