These plates use a 150 Angstrom pore silica gel. Its polarity is slightly less than the standard 60 Angstrom pore TLC plates. It may be necessary to reduce the polarity of the mobile phase to obtain equivalent separation. However, this decrease produces greater separation in the higher Rf regions of the plate while maintaining resolution in the lower zones. They are suitable for moderately to strongly polar compounds.
The 150A Silica Gel plates use an organic polymer binder which results in a stable, abrasion resistant surface. The moderately hard surface offers easier handling and simplifies sample application. It can be written upon with a dull lead pencil. The 150A Silica Gel plates are compatible with most organic solvents and will tolerate approximately 70-80% water in the mobile phase. They are compatible with most visualization reagents but are not recommended for aggressive techniques such as sulfuric acid charring. Layers are available with and without a UV254 fluorescent indicator. A variety of sizes is available.
