Silica Gel H Uniplates containing ammonium sulfate eliminate the need to use messy sulfuric acid for charring.  Just evaporate the developing solvent until the plant is completely dry, then heat at 150- 200 degrees for 30-60 minutes to achieve charring.

• Organic substains will appear to be brown to black against a white background
• The method is comparable in sensitivity to the visualization of UV-absorbing compounds against a fluorescent background
